Search Engine Optimisation

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of improving a website’s ranking in the organic listings of the major search engines for a set of keywords. By improving the ranking of a website you attract more traffic which should ultimately lead to more inquiries and sales. The list of Search Engine Optimisation aspects is massive, but here are the absolute basics.

Technical SEO

Technical Search Engine Optimisation is about making sure that your website fulfills the requirements of the major Search Engines.

Keyword Research

Keyword Research is about finding all keywords and keyphrases that are relevant to what your website is about.

On Site SEO

Page Titles, Meta Description, Headings, Keyword Density, Outbound Links, Internal Links...the list is huge!

Content

Your content is the reason searchers find your website. If you haven’t well written content, you are going to miss out.

Local SEO

Local businesses need to be found locally - not necessarily worldwide. This requires a different SEO approach.

Analytics

Analytics is how you measure the results of all the Search Engine Optimisation work that has been put in.

Technical SEO in More Detail

Technical SEO is, well Technical but vital for organic search results. It can be tricky, especially when Google keeps changing their search algorithm.

Site Map

A sitemap gives the visitor the opportunity to see a snapshot of your entire site content. Google expects to see a XML version.

Crawl

When your site is fully optimised and ready to go live, I will let Google know so they can index your site.

CMS

CMS stands for Content Management System, and I use WordPress exclusively. This keeps your website future proof.

Speed

Keeping the code lean and images optimized helps make your website fast loading - a key metric for Google.

Mobile

If your site isn’t mobile friendly, Google will penalise you in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages)

Keywords

Another vital aspect of Search Engine Optimisation are Keywords. Various keyword types are used in key areas of a given page. This helps influence where on Google you might rank.

Target Keywords

Target keywords are keywords you have researched as appropriate for a given page and are scattered evenly through the content.

Short Tail Keywords

Short Tail Keywords are two to three word phrases. These are terms a searcher might be looking for.

Long Tail Keywords

Long Tail keywords is a four or more word phrase. Searchers are increasingly searching in sentences.

On-Site SEO

On-Site Search Engine Optimisation can be hard work. Understanding intimately the vision, direction and products or services of a business is key to success. This understanding is what allows one to create and implement the various SEO tactics effectively.

Page Titles

Without a relevant Page Title, Google has no way of understanding what the page is about. Google then has no way of ranking that page.

Meta Descriptions

A well crafted Meta Description naturally increases the click through rate of your page as the searcher understands what your page is about.

Descriptive URL's

The URL (address) of your page needs to be easy to remember and equally easy for Google to understand what your page is about.

Keyword Placement

The correct saturation and distribution of your keywords is extremely important in Google’s eyes. Over or under saturation is a big mistake.

User Experience

The user’s experience is what your site should strive for. Google can easily detect poor user experience - as can the user!

Off-Site SEO

Off-Site SEO means building your Domain Authority – or simply DA, is a big part of how Google ranks a given page. The more quality backlinks the higher your Domain Authority. This is yet another major factor in Search Engine Optimisation.

Infographic Design

Infographics are a proven method for building your Domain Authority since well designed Infographics are shareable across multiple platforms.

Infographic Promotion

There are numerous places to promote Infographics including the Social Media behemoths not to mention other website linking back to them.

Email Outreach

I reach out to other websites with a high Domain Authority and ask if they will post your infographic with a link back to your site.
